Assessing conservation outcomes and maximizing habitat connectivity for multiple species in systematic conservation plans: a case study in Yolo County, California

چکیده
Abstract Context Habitat connectivity is key when designing reserve networks for conservation of species at risk. Acquiring land over time to achieve multiple in a systematic plan can pose challenge because not all high priority parcels will be acquired, occurrence data often limited, and using models together complex. Objectives We evaluated four possible acquisition strategies such their ability meet each three objectives. The represent different combinations what are termed ‘Priority 1’, 2’, ‘Corridor’ lands the plan. objectives (1) target acreages identified plan; these distinct from goals, (2) maximize structural habitat connectivity, (3) focal species. Methods For this case study Yolo County, California, we compared efficiency targets MARXAN. MARXAN solutions strategy FRAGSTATS distance between patches ArcGIS. by ArcGIS define species-specific least cost then assessing network’s conformity with solutions. Results 1’ provide most efficient solution attaining targets, highest greatest number Conclusions Because patterns sensitive may recommend spatial prioritization software employing several measures decision-making.

Maximizing species conservation in continental Ecuador: a case of systematic conservation planning for biodiverse regions
Ecuador has the largest number of species by area worldwide, but also a low representation of species within its protected areas. Here, we applied systematic conservation planning to identify potential areas for conservation in continental Ecuador, with the aim of increasing the representation of terrestrial species diversity in the protected area network. We selected 809 terrestrial species (a...
متن کاملEnvironmental change, shifting distributions, and habitat conservation plans: A case study of the California gnatcatcher
Many species have already experienced distributional shifts due to changing environmental conditions, and analyzing past shifts can help us to understand the influence of environmental stressors on a species as well as to analyze the effectiveness of conservation strategies. We aimed to (1) quantify regional habitat associations of the California gnatcatcher (Polioptila californica); (2) descri...

To avoid extinction of rare species in regions of active environmental change, strategic approaches are needed to manage remaining habitat. When observations of dispersal or metapopulation information are not available, habitat connectivity simulations may offer a valuable alternative source of information to assess threats and evaluate conservation options. For the Critically Endangered San Ma...
